Setting
I. Time period: Medieval
II. The world around it is fantasy oriented.
a. This means magic, wizards, dragons, gryphons, unicorns, and the like, all exist. The world is separated in many different kingdoms, some larger than others. Ebrus is a world power, and stays that way.
III. The culture of the people
a. Ebrus is a military based kingdom. The kings are always past generals, and all men are to be soldiers when they turn fifteen. Women take care of everything else in the kingdoms, and unlike most other kingdoms in the world (during this time period), women are held at a high respect since they care for everything while the men train and go to war.
b. Education for both men and women is very strict. Parents enforce education with an iron first, and don’t tolerate foolery or stupidity. The men of Ebrus are known to be harsh, and the women are well educated, and do not stand for any disrespect.
IV. The type of settlement (town, city, village, etc)
a. The kingdom is separated into smaller cities, all of which are controlled by an army general. These cities, known by districts, are spread out all over the world and control almost all of the surrounding land.
V. Size of the population
a. The main kingdom has upward of 90,000 civilians.
b. The whole kingdom has over seven million people. In this time period, Ebrus is the second-most-populated kingdom.
VI. The rules of your world (realistic physics, magic elements, etc)
a. The world around has mostly realistic physics. However, magic, dragons, and some other mythical creatures do exist here.
VII. The climate and environment.
a. Climate
i. The main part of Ebrus is located up more north. Therefore winters are harsh, but summers are hot. Buildings in the kingdom are made with thicker walls, and all are equipped with fire places and chimneys to warm them during the cold seasons. Due to the cold climate of the main portion of the kingdom in the winter, Ebrus had expanded south, and controls many smaller kingdoms and cities, and is still expanding. They control the majority of the continent they are on, and plan on expanding more.
b. Environment
i. The main part of Ebrus is located under a mountain range. A large lake is just in front of the castle, and is frozen for three months out of the year, during the winter. Snow is usually very thick in the region, but soldiers never stop training, even in the winter. During the warmer months, the mountains are lush and green, and the large fields are perfect for farming.
Growth of the Cities, Towns, and the Empire itself
In the beginning, Ebrus was a small, hidden village in the mountains. As people came, it grew as needed. Homes, stores, inns, blacksmiths, and the like, were all constructed as it became needed. Armories, training areas, and anything revolving the actual army itself was taken care of more than other things. This is another thing that aided to Ebrus’ military culture.
As they grew and expanded, a castle was erected from the mountainside, using dark stone, and colored glass. The castle only grew as time went on. The small village grew into a large town, and then into a large city.
When more kingdoms joined Ebrus, they became city-states to the main kingdom, also known as districts. Smaller towns were established where soldiers needed them, and grew as more people came to them. The lands owned by the Ebrus Empire are vast, and have many large and small settlements. Larger city-states have up to 5,000 people living in them. Smaller towns can tend to only have 100 or so people, and get up to 2,000 when a troop of soldiers comes through.
